1. Acceptance
By accessing or using this website you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
2. Educational purpose — not operational advice
All content on this website, including Library resources, articles, guides and presentations, is provided for general information and educational purposes only. It is not operational, navigational, medical, legal or emergency advice, and it does not replace formal training, qualified instruction, organisational procedures, or the direction of a competent authority. Never rely on this website in an emergency. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services or maritime rescue coordination centre immediately.
3. Accuracy and availability
Content is provided “as is”. While we curate carefully, we make no warranty that information is complete, current or error-free, and we may change or remove content at any time without notice.
4. External links and third-party resources
The Library and other pages link to resources hosted by third parties. Those resources remain the property of their authors and publishers. A link does not imply endorsement, and SoS is not responsible for third-party content, availability or terms.
5. Intellectual property
The SoS name, logos, page design, photography and original written content are the property of The Spirit of Search and Rescue unless otherwise stated. You may read, share and cite this material with attribution and a link. You may not republish, resell or redistribute substantial portions, or use SoS branding, without written permission.
6. Imagery, illustrations and likeness
Photographs, illustrations and AI-generated or composite images on this website are used for illustrative, educational and artistic purposes. Unless a person is expressly named and credited, the people depicted are not real individuals, and any resemblance or likeness to any actual person — living or deceased — or to any real organisation, vessel, uniform, insignia or event is purely coincidental and entirely unintentional. No depiction is intended to represent, identify, endorse or comment upon any real person or entity, and no image should be taken as evidence of any person’s conduct, employment, health or circumstances. By using this website you accept this and waive and release The Spirit of Search and Rescue, its personnel, volunteers, contractors and partners from any and all claims, demands or liability arising from any perceived likeness or resemblance in the imagery on this site. If you believe an image resembles you and you would like it reviewed or removed, please contact us and we will address it promptly.
7. User submissions
When you submit a document suggestion, message, pledge or other content, you confirm you have the right to share it and grant SoS a non-exclusive licence to review, store and — where relevant — publish it on the site. We may edit, decline or remove submissions. Only information you explicitly consent to publish will be shown publicly.
8. Purchases, memberships and bookings
Purchases made through this site are handled by a third-party payment processor. Bookings for training, consulting or other services are confirmed by SoS after purchase and may be subject to scheduling, travel and venue arrangements agreed separately. If a service cannot be delivered, we will arrange a reschedule or refund. Memberships renew or expire as described at the point of purchase and can be cancelled by contacting us.
9. Acceptable use
- Do not attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its data.
- Do not scrape, overload, disrupt or probe the site or its forms.
- Do not submit unlawful, harassing, defamatory or misleading content.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SoS is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from use of this website or reliance on its content.
11. Changes
These terms may be revised at any time. Continued use of the site means you accept the current version.
12. Contact
